Nothing can compare to the immense feelings of joy, freedom and peace that I feel when completely surrounded by nature & sharing those feelings with others. Wildlife Photographer and Tour Guide, I spend as much time as possible in exactly that state- “completely surrounded by nature.” My life’s goal and passion is to make as many people as possible feel that way too by helping them see the world through my eyes.
Even as I type these words I look around and my hands and eyes ache for the feel of my camera. Given the chance I would never put it down. It is my greatest desire that by showing my images the people would understand that heaven is not a place we go to when we die but a place we can be at if we open our hearts, minds and eyes to the paradise provided here on earth full of beauty and wonder.
As I look at birds, butterflies, plants, everything, untouched and untainted I see freedom and love- the two greatest possessions we humans will ever have. Nature lives in harmony with the earth, taking nothing more than it needs and giving back so much more. Conservation comes through education and it is easier to educate through visual stimulation. With my images and my tours I hope to encourage the upcoming generation to protect what has been entrusted to us so faithfully.
For the last 5 years I have been building a portfolio of stunning images of mainly birds of Trinidad and Tobago while studying Bird Biology. My education in the field is a continuing one which I am very proud to say gives my life a meaning and purpose.
I, Derek-Marie Selvon, promise to follow through with my life’s mission, to protect, preserve, conserve and record the Fauna and Flora of Trinidad and Tobago for as long as my days will allow!
